Organization is Key!

Finally, the room is organized, everything has a place and is put away except for the current project.  I decided to put my paper in separate drawers based on the color wheel. This means all the blues are together, then purple, then red, then orange, then yellow, then green, then the nuetrals - blacks, browns and whites and tones Gray and cremes.  Put all the patterned background papers by themes - floral, butterfly, sports, etc.  That alone has made life so much easier to locate things for projects!  It took me almost a week and a half to do it but well worth it!

I strongly recommend that you take the time to get your scrapbooking items organized.  Yes it is a hassle but it is also a good time to sort out those items you really will never use and donate them to a good cause - the local thrift store, a kids club.  If you are not sure about something like a rubber stamp - make a black and white print of it on white paper.  Fill it up and then you can copy whenever you need it.

A good way to organize your stickers is to use the 12 x 12 clear containers or snap folders.  They will handle a HUGE number of stickers and embellishments.  Again organize by theme is the way that works best for me - Letters in one bag, floral in another, sayings in another.  I even put borders and titles in their own spot.

Organizing the photos is the hardest - for right now I have everything by year.  As I go along I will organize within the year or across the years for a themed project such as Father and Son vacations, Firsts!, etc.  Again, I like the 12 x 12 clear containers as you can fit larger photos flat and then stack the smaller ones to fit everything in.

Staying organized is the trick.  This means when you are done with something put it back immediately.  When you acquire something new - put it away within 24 hours of getting it home. (Do I hear my mom's voice in the background of this?????)  It really does help to keep the clutter down.  Most importantly - go through your things at least once a year and get rid of the things you don't like or are iffy about.  Be ruthless!  Look at it this way - why waste space on things you don't really care about when you could use the space on new things you really love.

Well, off to go deep clean and organize another part of the house - think I will tackle the kitchen next and see what space I can free up.

Remember - Take the best and Toss the Rest!
